This is the second in our 10 part series on change

 

EXAMINE

The next step on our journey to a new you is to self EXAMINE.  If you’ve been asking yourself – Why is my life not the way I want it to be?  What is wrong with me?  What is wrong with what I do?  Some past experience has brought you to this place of questioning.  If your wish is to change your mind-set and shift your awareness, you must actively seek the truth, know the truth, and accept the truth of who you are, what you are about, what you want and how you will go about getting it. Often you must act with the precision of a surgeons knife which can sometimes be painful.

This means thoroughly and objectively examining every experience. 

Ask the questions:
 
What am I feeling? 
Have I felt this way before? 
When? 
Why? 
Who was involved?
What part did I play?
How did I respond?


When we feel the lump in our throat, butterflies in our stomach, tension across our chest our body is giving us a clear signal that something is amiss.  The experience is eliciting some strong emotion for us.  Listen, Be Still, Hear the message your body is sending.  This is the beginning of Awareness.  Start by spending 5 minutes each day in quiet contemplation (no television, radio, telephone, etc.).

Now you face the challenge.  Once you’ve asked and honestly answered all those questions, you must Trust the answers, you must Believe your inner voice, you must Honor your feelings.

TIP – Change is an internal affair.  Separate the way you experienced past events from the opinions of others.
